L’Aïd al-Adha marque la fin du Hajj et commémore la volonté d’Ibrahim de sacrifier son fils Ismaël ainsi que l’acception d’Ismaël à ce commandement. La prière, le sacrifice d’un animal, le plus souvent un mouton, dont un tiers doit être donné en charité à des nécessiteux.
L’Eïd al-Adha, la fête du sacrifice, plus communément appelé Aïd el-Kebir, la grande fête, marque la fin du pèlerinage. Elle est l’une des deux plus grandes dates dans le calendrier des musulmans avec l’Aïd al-Fitr qui marque la fin du ramadan.
